Content visibility in Brightspace
Hiding a content folder (known in Brightspace either as a 'module' or 'sub-module') is as easy as clicking an icon. If you have edit rights (if you're enrolled as a Lecturer for example), to the right of any content folder you will see an eye icon (shown opposite, click to enlarge).
Hovering over it you will see it brings up the word 'Visible', informing you that those with access to the unit or module will be able to see the contents of the folder.
Note: This function in Brightspace was previously phrased as Published/Draft and was changed via a drop-down list (opposite).
To hide the contents of the folder, simply click the eye icon. This will bring up a toggle button with a tick showing (indicating the folder is currently visible). Then click the toggle button as shown opposite.
There are two ways to hide (or unhide) individual items in Brightspace.
Firstly, you can click on the Actions menu to the right of an item and select Hide from Users from the drop-down list (picture opposite).
You will be notified via a popup (which disappears after a few seconds) that your change has been successful. You will also now see the eye icon to the right of the item has changed to being an eye with a line through it.
Secondly, you can use the Bulk Edit function to make all the items in a folder editable at once.
From the Bulk Edit screen, you can click on any eye icon to change an item from visible to hidden (once to activate the toggle button, and a second time to hide).
Once you have made all the changes you wish to, click Done Editing at the top of the screen to return to the normal view.
To add date restrictions to a folder, simply click on the ‘Add dates and restrictions…’ text below the folder title (opposite), enter a start and/or end date and click Update. Students will now only be able to see the (sub) folder from the start date onward, and/or only until the end date you provided.
To do this to an individual item, click on the Actions menu to the right of the item title and select Edit Properties In-place. This will bring up the 'Add dates and restrictions...' button, click on this, enter a start and/or end date and, as above, click Update.
