Transcripts

It is important to create transcripts or descriptions any time audio or video are used to deliver course material.

The primary reason for doing this is related to legal requirements for accessibility. It is important that no students are disadvantaged, so alternative text versions of video and audio content is vital to meet accessibility requirements. Transcripts should include all teaching content, in situations where a script has been used in production that can be shared to meet this need and in other situations a transcript will have to be made. Where videos that include demonstrations or activities, a text description should be supplied.

The inclusion of transcripts and text descriptions provide benefits to all students, not just those with additional needs. The transcripts and text descriptions provide alternatives to those who are unable to access videos for technological reasons and also allow those who prefer to read content a more suitable method of delivery.

More advice and guidance on transcripts can be found on the uiAccess website.
